PDP Bayelsa chieftain arrested for illegal firearm possession

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary in Bayelsa State, Mr. Amadein Tibiebi, has been arrested for having a gun illegally. Tibiebi, who used to be a militant leader, is currently held by the local police for questioning.

This incident is related to an earlier case from November 2021 when a man named Richard Okon was taken into custody for allegedly carrying firearms unlawfully at a wake-keeping event.

In a video, Okon admitted that he was working with Tibiebi Amadein and claimed that the gun belonged to Tibiebi.

According to Sahara Reporters, Tibiebi is the nephew and Chief Security Officer of Senator Cleopas Moses from Bayelsa Central.

After Okon was arrested, Tibiebi was called in by the police but got released by showing fake licenses and documents. His connections with powerful members of the state’s PDP and government reportedly helped him get released.

A recent complaint filed with the police resulted in Tibiebi’s latest arrest. He is currently under investigation for unlawfully having a gun and forging a firearm license.

There are reports indicating that Tibiebi had previously bragged about being beyond the reach of law enforcement because of his ties to top PDP leaders and state government figures.
