Despite internal turmoil within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the North East Zone of the party has officially backed the embattled national chairman, Umar Damagum.
This endorsement was communicated through a statement by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Thursday, September 19.
While representing the PDP chapters in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states, Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership approach since assuming the chairmanship.
Fintiri’s chief press secretary, in the statement, also emphasized a Federal High Court’s restraining order issued in Abuja.
Fintiri’s chief press secretary’s statement also emphasized a Federal High Court’s restraining order issued in Abuja. The court’s ruling dictates that Damagum is to remain in his position and complete the term of the former national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, a decision only reversible by the court.
Fintiri praised party members who stood by Damagum and the current party leadership, stating that the court’s verdict serves the PDP’s best interests, its members, and the national democratic process.
The governor highlighted the PDP’s success in the recent elections across the North East states, describing this achievement as remarkable and unparalleled. Fintiri asserted that the region is most deserving of the National Chairman position compared to any other part in the North.
