PDP warns against desperate political practice in Edo

Date:

The PDP has cautioned politicians against resorting to desperate tactics to gain power in the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states. Meanwhile, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has criticized the PDP for failing to fulfill its promises in his state.

The Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, expressed confidence in his party’s victory, citing Governor Godwin Obaseki’s performance in Edo.

“So, Edo is there for us because we have done well and we will take it back to the PDP. Edo has always been PDP.”

Damagum encouraged the members of the Edo PDP National Campaign Council to ensure that the party retains control of the state. He acknowledged that the PDP lost in Ondo due to strong-arm tactics but remained confident that the party would win in the upcoming November governorship election based on the current situation.

“We are now more committed, more resolved,” Damagum stated, noting that with the emergence of Agboola Ajayi as the party’s candidate, PDP stood a better chance to win Ondo.

“Just to show you that we are truly a democratic party, we don’t grab, we don’t steal, but we work with the people and we open our hands to them and show them what we will do for them.”

Ahmadu Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the Edo State National Campaign Council, reassured that both committees would take every necessary measure.

Fintiri expressed that the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo are easily attainable goals for the PDP, emphasizing the need for a serious and competitive approach to match the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He highlighted the reduced likelihood of rigging due to technological advancements and shared that the PDP has registered over 2,000 new members through a recent membership drive.

Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, is serving as the Chairman of the Ondo National Campaign Council. Fubara voiced his disappointment with the PDP’s silence regarding the conflict between him and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.

He stated that Rivers State would firmly stand up for democracy, relying on a grassroots movement centered on truth and consistency rather than partisan politics.

Fubara noted, “In our state today, we are no longer doing party; we are doing a movement, so you don’t blame me if I don’t go to the side of the party too much.

“The party has failed us here, so what we are doing here is to stand with our two legs on the soil of Rivers to defend democracy.”
