On June 24, 2024, at approximately 3:50 pm, the Adatan Divisional Police Officer arrested a suspected ritualist, Nojeem Balogun, who lives near Iyana Cele Car Wash in Abeokuta, for illegally possessing a human head.
Balogun had reported to the police station that his sibling had informed him of suspicious activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta, the previous day at around 8:00 am. This led to the discovery and arrest of the suspected ritualist.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that an unknown person or group had exhumed and decapitated the body in the grave.
Further inquiry led to the identification of Lekan Akinyemi as the prime suspect, who was caught in the act of desecrating the grave and severing the head.
Akinyemi was apprehended and the case was subsequently transferred to the Anti-Robbery unit for further investigation, before being handed over to the State CID for further action.
