The lifeless body of a mobile police officer, previously seized by bandits, has been uncovered in a dense thicket located in Bangalala, within the Wase local government area.
The discovery of the officer’s remains reportedly occurred this past Sunday. Sources reveal that this officer was an integral part of a security unit engaged in combat against bandits within the region when he fell victim to an ambush and was subsequently abducted.
Additionally, a soldier who was also part of this security detail managed to evade the assailants’ attack. This tragic incident, involving the abduction and eventual murder of the policeman, represents the most recent in a distressing string of assaults orchestrated by bandits in the Wase local government vicinity.
Earlier on May 21, 2024, bandits raided Zurak community, resulting in the deaths of more than 40 residents and injuries to several others, including local vigilantes aiding security forces in maintaining peace.
As of now, there has been no official response from the state police command regarding this recent turn of events. The community remains in mourning and on edge as the specter of banditry looms large over the region.
