Currently, there is a solidarity march taking place in Obio/Akpor, led by political leaders who are showing their support for Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The demonstrators have congregated at the Rumueme Civic Centre in Port Harcourt, where their main demand is for the Inspector General of Police to maintain a robust presence in the councils and resist any attempts at intimidation.
The protesters highlighted the significance of continuous police oversight to ensure security and orderly conduct within the councils. They voiced their concerns about potential threats and urged the Inspector General to stand firm against any endeavors that may jeopardize the stability of the state.
Furthermore, the protesters proudly showcased banners and signs expressing their unwavering support for Wike. The demonstrations were initiated in response to Governor Sim Fubara’s decision to remove Wike’s loyalists from their positions in the local councils.
Although the secretariats continue to be locked and inaccessible, Fubara has taken the step of appointing new council bosses as replacements for the previously dismissed individuals.
