President Tinubu, President Mbasogo sign agreement on Gulf of Guinea gas pipeline project

Date:

President Bola Tinubu and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Mbasogo have signed an agreement for the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project. Tinubu visited Malabo, Equatorial Guinea’s capital, for a three-day official trip.

According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, the agreement includes rules and regulations for the gas pipeline, how it will be set up and run, moving natural gas through it, who will own the pipeline, and some general principles.

During his speech, Tinubu mentioned that finalizing the agreement would create fresh chances for gas exploration and job opportunities. The President stated that in a private discussion with Mbasogo, they talked about matters concerning job creation, food security, international relationships, and methods for resolving conflicts within the continent.

Tinubu stated, “Concerning Africa, conflicts and conflict resolution were discussed. We discussed various areas of conflicts and what we can do to promote peace.”

“We talked about promotion of peace and stability in our countries, and growth and prosperity on our continent.

“In the same way that Europe and America have kept themselves and found a solution for their conflicts, we have to look at both inadequate capital, industrialization efforts, research and development programmes, and enlighten our people, navigate our way through problems.

“Instead of the crisis and conflicts that we see in the Republic of Congo, and others, we have to look inwards to solve problems ourselves.”

“We are all going for it. Within Africa and the African Union, we have resolved that we will work together to make sure that the solution to many of our problems in Africa comes from within.”

Mbasogo highlighted the fruitful bilateral ties with Nigeria over the years and stressed the importance of enhancing collaboration in key areas.

He emphasized the significance of Africa securing a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the continent’s progress, confirming Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to partnering with Nigeria to achieve this goal. Mbasogo underscored the strategic importance of the agreement for Africa’s advancement.

The agreement was also signed by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Equatorial Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Simeon Oyono Esono. Chief Lateef Fagbemi, Nigeria’s Justice Minister and Attorney General; Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, Defense Minister; Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Interior Minister; Ekperikpe Ekpo, State Minister for Petroleum and Gas; and Dr. Jamila Ibrahim, Youth Development Minister, were all present at the agreement signing.
