Reports have it that at least eighteen people were arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate on Sunday, October 20, 2024 for honouring the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.
The activity of the #EndSARS protest occurred between October 1 and 20, 2020. It was as result of the nation’s anger over police brutality. It was confirmed that so many people lost their lives at Lekki Toll Gate during that year.
While people gathered to honour the lives of people that got killed during the past incident, they were tear-gassed by the police and arrested.
The people arrested also includes notable activists such as the Natonal Spokesperson of the Youth Rights Campaign, Hassan Soweto, and other members of #EndBadGovernance Movement.
The National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu and Initiator of the Creative Change Centre, Omole Ibukun, affirmed to the reports of the arrests sent to the news outlets.
The African Action Congress’ 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore posted that the protesters were beaten before taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos.
