Reactions as Laycon calls out DJ Neptune over unpaid royalties

Date:

Laycon, the winner of Big Brother Naija, has sparked a heated conversation on social media after publicly calling out DJ Neptune for failing to pay royalties from their collaborative song “Nobody” remix .

Fans are divided, with some supporting Laycon’s actions and others questioning why he didn’t address the issue privately . This isn’t the first time an artist has spoken out about unpaid royalties, as Harrysong recently called out Kcee for similar reasons.

Laycon took to social media platform X to publicly address DJ Neptune, demanding his share of royalties from their 2019 hit song “Nobody” remix, as per their initial agreement.

He expressed frustration, wondering why he hadn’t received his dues despite the song’s success and the fact that it’s been four years since its release.

“Abeg o… @deejayneptune how far my agreement and split for the “Nobody (Icons Remix)” song though. Is it not still ready? Haba, it’s been 4 years o.

Cc @emPawaAfrica”.

Recall that,Harrysong had also joined the chorus of artists seeking unpaid royalties, calling out Kcee in December 2023 for withholding royalties and unreleased songs.

He accused Kcee of bullying and pleaded for fair treatment, seeking what he rightfully deserves.

In a recent Instagram live session, Harrysong shared his struggles, revealing that despite working for Kcee for seven years, he remained broke, even lacking basic necessities like a bed.

He also recounted how he supported Kcee during low points in his music career, highlighting the irony of his situation.

Moreso, Music producer Napji has accused Davido of failing to pay royalties and publishing fees for his work on the hit songs “Fem”, “Jowo”, and “Sunlight” from Davido’s 2020 album “A Better Time”.

Napji claimed he received an advance payment of N500,000 per song but has yet to receive his due royalties.

He threatened to expose more details and encouraged the public to hold Davido accountable.

In response, Davido dismissed the claims with a sarcastic comment, “Your papa”, downplaying the seriousness of the allegation.
