On Thursday, July 4, the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill was successfully passed by the Nigerian Senate. The bill received approval following a thorough examination of the report presented by Senator Kaka Shehu, the chairman of the Committee on Special Duties.
Senator Abba Moro, representing the Benue South Senatorial District, introduced the bill and received strong support from all senators representing the North Central region.
Together, they united behind the bill, recognizing its significance in addressing the region’s developmental requirements.
After being introduced in the Senate on October 5, 2023, the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill successfully advanced to its second reading on February 21, 2024.
Senator Moro expressed his gratitude for the bipartisan support and stressed the urgent need for the commission to address the developmental gaps in the region.
The NCDC bill aims to imitate the achievements of comparable regional development commissions in resolving issues like poverty, infrastructure gaps, and social challenges.
The bill is currently awaiting agreement from the House of Representatives and subsequent approval from the President in order to be enacted as a law.
