The Nigerian Senate Committee on Public Accounts criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other agencies for reportedly not answering queries. The Senate had asked about the audit reports for 2019 but has not received responses.
In response, Ahmed Wadada, the committee’s chairman, from SDP-Nasarawa West, expressed concern about how some agencies, including the Federal Internal Revenue Services, are handling the situation.
He mentioned that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), FIRS, and other organizations have not replied to the questions raised in the 2019 audit report.
The chairman stated that if any agency does not respond to these questions, the inquiries will continue, and the matter will be brought up in the Senate’s main sessions.
The chairman said, His words, “It is worthy to state that the committee commenced the consideration of the Audit Report in October 2023, with a view to presenting its report to the Plenary.
“However, some agencies have willfully failed to honour invitations to defend their written responses to the audit queries as submitted to the committee’s secretariat.
“The committee is very displeased with the attitude of foot-dragging by agencies who are by law, expected to respond to parliamentary invitations and account for their actions.”
