The Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) has pledged to support the Kaduna dry inland port in boosting its productivity. Executive Secretary Pius Akutah made this commitment during a familiarization visit to the port, where he met with operators to understand their challenges and offer encouragement.
Akutah acknowledged that the port’s full potential has been hindered by pending legal and liability issues before the National Assembly. He emphasized the need for swift resolution, citing the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy’s directive to explore solutions that ensure optimal utilization of port infrastructure.
As regulators, Akutah said, the NSC aims to address the port’s challenges and enhance productivity for the benefit of Nigerians. Bala Saleh, NSC’s Director of Legal Services, attributed delays in goods delivery to the absence of a liability bill, currently in its second reading. He urged the Kaduna port to invest in promoting its activities to attract more business.
Omotayo Dada, Managing Director of the port, expressed gratitude for the NSC’s support, stating that the port is ready for business and aims to reduce congestion by delivering shipping and port services directly to importers and exporters, facilitating smoother trade operations.
