A prominent figure in the nationwide protests, Very Dark Man, has withdrawn his participation and is now urging others to do the same.
In a recent video, he explained his decision, citing concerns that the movement has taken a concerning turn. Specifically, he highlighted that in some northern states, protesters are now waving Russian flags and calling for Russian intervention in Nigeria’s affairs, which he finds troubling.
Very Dark Man expressed further concerns about the protesters’ demands, which have shifted from addressing hunger and economic issues to calling for a military coup and Russian intervention in Nigeria’s governance.
He argued that the original purpose of the protests has been hijacked, as demonstrators now seek to overthrow the democratic government instead of making specific demands for improvement.
Moreover, he suspected that an unknown entity is orchestrating the calls for Russian involvement in Nigerian affairs, further deviating from the initial protest goals.
Very Dark Man, has now called for the government to impose curfews in certain states to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Despite being a pioneer of the protests and emphasizing their peaceful nature, Very Dark Man has witnessed the violence firsthand, including being tear-gassed by police.
However, he defended the police, attributing their actions to higher orders. With the protests halfway through their planned 10-day duration, the situation remains unresolved, despite interventions from celebrities and the President.
Nigerians continue to participate in large numbers, indicating no immediate end to the demonstrations.
