On Monday, Vice-President Kashim Shettima said, “The Sultan is the Sultan of Sokoto. But he is much more than that; he represents an idea. He is an Institution that all of us in this country need to jealously guard, protect, promote, preserve, and project for the growth of our nation.”
Shettima offered the advice during his address at the ongoing North West Peace & Security Summit in Katsina State.The Vice President recommended that the Sokoto State government take measures to ensure the safety and protection of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Previously, Prof. Isiaq Akintola, the Executive Director of the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC), had raised concerns regarding an alleged plot by the Sokoto government to remove the Sultan from his position.
Furthermore, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State had deposed 15 traditional rulers for various infractions.
As reported, the number two emphasized the importance of safeguarding and advancing the position of the Sultan while addressing the Sokoto State government.
He said, “In all developmental issues in this country, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, I want to use him as a point of reference to recognise and appreciate all our royal fathers present here.
“And to the deputy governor of Sokoto, I have a simple message for you. Yes, the Sultan is the Sultan of Sokoto. But he is much more than that.
“He represents an idea. He is an Institution, that all of us in this country need to jealously guard, protect, promote, preserve, and project for the growth of our nation,” Shettima stated.
