A well-known religious leader, Daniel Sunday Onuoha, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to free the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from prison to prevent a looming disaster.
In a public letter to President Tinubu, Onuoha, the founder of Peace of Yahweh Synagogue and Eastern Judaism, referred to Kanu as “a prophet of the most high God on a mission” to save the Biafran and Yoruba people.
Onuoha mentioned that he had previously recommended to President Tinubu to release Kanu shortly after his inauguration last year, but the advice was ignored.
He cautioned that keeping Kanu in detention could bring disaster to the country, referring to warnings he believes are from God.
According to Onuoha, God indicated that detaining Kanu would result in more severe disasters, such as economic, political, and social problems, and even potential harm to those responsible for his detention.
He urged President Tinubu to take prompt action to prevent the approaching disasters.
Onuoha compared the situation to when General Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu released Obafemi Awolowo before the Nigerian Civil War in 1967. He advised President Tinubu to listen to what he believes is a message from God and release Kanu.
He said, “Let it not be like the warning I gave to erstwhile CAN president, Oritsejafor, in 2011, and also to former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at Aso Rock during his administration.
“Both failed to implement those warnings and the consequence of that disobedience is why the country is in this bad situation, especially, the easterners.”
