A youth group in Edo state, known as the Etsako Youth Movement (EYM), has demanded the arrest of the former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
Shaibu recently mentioned in an interview that he would reveal details about Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
The youth group criticized Shaibu’s statements as ridiculous, suggesting that if anyone deserves to be exposed, it is Shaibu himself. They accused him of being incompetent, disloyal, and of repeatedly trying to undermine his former boss.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Johnson Umoru, the leader of the Etsako Youth Movement, strongly criticized Shaibu for what he called “desperate and unfounded” accusations intended to damage Governor Obaseki’s reputation.
Umoru stated, “It is laughable that Philip Shaibu, a man who has consistently shown his incompetence and disloyalty, would now claim he has something to expose about Governor Obaseki.
“If there is anyone who needs to be exposed, it is Shaibu. His actions have demonstrated a clear lack of loyalty and a dangerous ambition to usurp the powers of his former boss.”
He urged for a detailed inquiry into Shaibu’s financial activities, especially regarding the money spent on his unsuccessful bid for governorship and his involvement in various legal battles.
“We demand a probe into how Philip Shaibu obtained the funds to finance his ill-fated governorship campaign. The people of Edo State deserve to know the source of these funds, especially given his track record of questionable behaviour,” he noted.
The Etsako Youth Movement also alleged that Shaibu was inciting violence, highlighting a recent event on Airport Road in Benin City where a police inspector tragically died.
He added, “Shaibu has shown a knack for violence, and this was evident in the recent Airport Road incident where a police officer was killed. This is unacceptable, and we call for his immediate arrest and prosecution for this and other acts of violence he has been associated with.”
