Victony discloses that he had a background in dancing and attempted acting before pursuing a career as a musician.
The artist, who became widely popular in 2023 with his popular song ‘Soweto’ featuring Don Toliver & Rema, has recently launched his first album ‘Stubborn’ on June 21, 2024.
When asked about the inspiration behind the album, Victony shares with host Nandi Madiba that it was influenced by all the experiences he encountered during his path to achievement.
“Looking back at everything I’ve been through – my come-up story and how I’ve defied the odds. I’ve stayed true to myself and kept my eyes on the goal all along. Nothing else has been influenced by decisions.”
In ‘Stubborn,’ Victony collaborated with Asake, a prominent personality in the Afrobeats genre, and Shallipopi, a rising star in the Street hop scene.
Additionally, Victony achieved his long-held aspiration of working with Saint Jhn, a Guyanese-American artist who he considers one of his top 5 favorite musicians ever.
“SAINt JHN is in my top five artists of all time. He’s someone I really look up to so you can imagine how much that session meant to me. Being in the same room as SAINt JHN and watching him create, learning from him. That was a very interesting record.”
Victony has established a reputation as one of the most innovative artists in the Afrobeats genre, known for his unique artistic expression through his visuals and fashion choices.
According to Victony, he has always had a passion for exploring various forms of art, such as dancing and acting.
These artistic talents are prominently showcased in his first album, where he skillfully combines different musical genres.
“Even outside music, I just love to try out different things. At some point, I was in a dance group. At some point, I tried acting. Even with some of the teasers I put out, I do acting here and there. So I try to incorporate that in my music as well, so I listen to all kinds of music. Fuse elements from different genres and try to make something beautiful. That’s something I really did during the process of making this album. I was in the learning phase and I just tried to apply all that I had learned.”
Victony’s first album ‘Stubborn’ was made available to the public on June 21, 2024, consisting of a total of 14 songs that showcase various aspects of Victony’s artistic abilities, all the while portraying his journey of determination and strength.
