The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello’s assertion of voluntarily surrendering, disclosing that he was arrested by EFCC agents in Lokoja at midnight.
Presently, Bello is detained at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja, facing a 19-count charge of money laundering totaling N80 billion.
Since the case began in April 2024 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the former governor has consistently failed to appear in court.
An insider at the EFCC disclosed that Bello was tracked and captured by agents in the early morning hours, contrary to Bello’s claim that he willingly responded to the EFCC’s invitation.
Bello’s media team communicated that he chose to collaborate with the EFCC after discussions with his family, legal representatives, and political associates.
He mentioned his aim to defend his basic human rights and ensure proper legal procedures.
