Yobe Govt Denise Cholera Outbreak, Launches Hygiene Campaign

Date:

The Executive Secretary of the Yobe Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Kundi Machina, asserted that there have been no confirmed cases of cholera in the state.

Machina conveyed this message through Mr. Mohammed Kado, the State Health Promotion Officer, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Damaturu on Sunday.

He indicated that the government, in collaboration with UNICEF, had initiated a campaign to raise awareness about personal hygiene and environmental sanitation throughout the state’s 17 local government areas.

The campaign, particularly targeting high-risk LGAs like Gujba, Gulani, Damaturu, Fika, and Geidam, is designed to prevent the occurrence of cholera and other waterborne diseases.

While acknowledging that diarrhea and related illnesses are common during the rainy season, Machina confirmed there was no cholera outbreak in the state thus far.

He encouraged residents to uphold good personal hygiene and environmental sanitation practices as a preventive measure against disease transmission.

Residents of the state, who had been on high alert due to reports of cholera outbreaks in neighboring states, found reassurance in the confirmation provided by Naijatraffic that Yobe State had not experienced any cases of cholera.
